Actress Pankhuri Awasthy, who will next be seen playing a rape victim in upcoming TV show Kya Qussoor Hai Amala Ka?, states she gathered the nerve to slap a man who touched her wrongly. She is happy that she withstood harassment.
“Mumbai is one of the safest cities in India, if I inform by my experience. I have actually stayed in Delhi, Chandigarh, Noida, and Bengaluru; and have gone to other cities too. I will not state cities are safe for women,” Pankhuri stated on the sets of Kya Qussoor Hai Amala Ka? here on Saturday.
“When I remained in Delhi, I utilized to travel to college by Metro and so many instances have occurred with me. That time (in college), you’re so young and you don’t realise half of the important things that are happening to you.
“Cities are not safe for girls. If you think you can head out during the night, you can’t do so without being frightened,” she included.
Now she feels delighted about raising her voice against harassment.
“Earlier, I didn’t have the guts to stand up against it. Now I do stand. Just recently, I remained in Bengaluru with my friends and I was using a skirt. There was this person who came and he had the courage to touch my thighs. I slapped him then and there itself,” she said.

“I stop there and say out a couple of bad words when somebody attempts to tease me. I cannot keep quiet now. I am proud of myself for doing that,” she added.
Kya Qussoor Hai Amala Ka?, an Indian adjustment of popular Turkish TV program Fatmagul, deals with complex feelings and takes on the delicate topic of infraction of the innocence of a female.
“For the preparation of my function, I fulfilled a psychologist and a practising psychiatrist to understand exactly what goes on in the minds of these women who have actually been raped. They told us that exactly what’s the unusual thing here is that most of these women are wed to the guy who raped them,” Pankhuri stated.
She feels that such kind of forced relations are “uncomfortable” for females.
“We were given proper acting workshops. While shooting here in Dharamsala, the majority of the things came naturally to us. We were even made to discover the dialect of Himachal Pradesh.
“Personally, for me, playing this character was extremely non-dramatic. When you do a historical or a mythological show, the grandeur of the set and the jewellery include a great deal of feel. In this character, there is absolutely nothing,” added the starlet, who has actually previously appeared in shows like Razia Sultan and Suryaputra Karn.
Pankhuri said that she wants to get promotion through her roles with compound, and not simply with looks.
“I want to be known for my acting and not good appearances– a perception that many have about stars on TV,” she stated.
