SALEM MUNICIPALITY, Mich. - An animal welfare group states it's saved more than 100 pet dogs, felines and other animals from a home in Michigan where an unlicensed animal breeding operation was housed.Humane Society
of Huron Valley says it found 39 cats, 20 kittens, 18 pets, 16 young puppies, 14 chickens and a parrot Wednesday in conditions referred to as "deplorable" at the house in Washtenaw County's Salem Town, about 30 miles west of Detroit. The HSHV says
the owner is a self-described 'pastime breeder' and did not have a breeder or kennel license and offering pups and kitties for nearly $2,000.
"When it's all about cash, unfortunately, animals frequently pay the rate, living in unhygienic conditions without adequate treatment, nutritious food or anything that may reduce revenue," says Michele Baxter, HSHV's Cruelty & & Rescue Supervisor. "This person was offering young puppies and kittens from $1100 to $1800, so there was no reason for their poor care."
The Humane Society says a lot of the animals were discovered matted, underweight, and struggling with a variety of health and behavioral concerns. They were likewise living amongst piles of feces with filthy water. It says some were restricted to a basement. Michele Baxter, the humane society's Cruelty & & Rescue Manager, states some puppies and kittycats were being sold for $1,100 to $1,800.
The case is expected to be examined to identify whether criminal charges will be sought.Under Michigan law
, stopping working to supply care involving 10 or more animals is a felony punishable by as much as 4 years and a$5,000 fine plus possible restitution.Due to these 2 rescues, the HSHV is using special adoption rates: adult felines are complimentary, kittycats are adopt-one-get-one-free, and adult pet dogs adoption charges are 50%off.
